Yanapaccha, Cordillera Blanca, Peru (5460 meters)

Here are pics from the attempted new route on Yanapaccha, June of this summer. New route is in GREEN, and the standard route is in RED.
The proposed new route had 4+ ft of snow on the ridges, so it had to be aborted, and we carried on with the standard route.
The view from top of the rock mess at Morena base camp.

Here is Morena Base Camp.

We did a standard "alpine start", and even with the high altitude + moonlight most the pictures taken did not turn out.
Right before we were gearing up with ropes and crampons, I did hear an avalanche over the Huandoy massif area. It sounded like a freight train hitting a brick wall (the force of the snow and debris made an awful screeching sound on the way down, pretty gnarley stuff).

Walter Albinos, making his way up the ridge, during a short refill. As you can see, we were surrounded by clouds.

Here is a crevasse that we passed on the way up.

We ended up turning around from the bid with 120 meters left. I was exhausted after only a few hours of sleep the night before and the visibility was bad. I'll be back to climb Yanapaccha next year via a new route, as well as a few others.

Here are a few pics from Huaraz:

An unclimbed peak that I may do next year. It looks a lot like the Matterhorn, with a bigger base.
